Dr. Sivan holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Bharathiar University and was awarded the CSIR-JRF-NET, by CSIR, Govt. of India with an All-India Rank of 089 for his doctoral research. He brings 17 years of research experience, including six years of postdoctoral work in leading international laboratories. His core expertise spans genome editing, abiotic stress biology, and post-harvest biology and technology. He has contributed to several high-impact research initiatives across the globe. At the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), Israel, he worked on biology and technology for mitigating chilling injury in fruits during post-harvest cold storage. At Iwate University, Japan, he employed CRISPR-Cas systems to investigate chilling tolerance in tomato, and at Gyeongsang National University, South Korea, he worked on enhancing HDR-based gene editing in tomato. He is a co-inventor of two U.S. patents related to improved homology-directed repair (HDR) methodologies (US11542530B2 and US20220049263A1). Currently at MSSRF, his research focuses on developing climate-resilient, nutrient-rich next-generation crops through advanced genome engineering approaches.
