Institution Building

Farmers as Entrepreneurs, Communities as Change-Makers

At MSSRF, we believe that Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are powerful tools for change. These grassroots groups bring together smallholder farmers, fishermen and fisherwomen to tackle shared challenges, improve incomes, and grow stronger—together.

FPOs help farmers access better markets, adopt modern technologies, and explore value-added and agri-business opportunities. By working as a group, farmers gain strength, skills, and support that would be difficult to achieve alone. Our goal is to help farmers shift from basic production to thriving, sustainable enterprises.

Our Vision

We aim to build a strong network of farmer-led institutions that drive inclusive growth and rural development.

What We Do

MSSRF supports FPOs every step of the way—from their early formation to becoming fully independent and profitable. Here’s how we help:

Set up and incubate FPOs across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka, and Odisha

Provide training and capacity-building to strengthen leadership and governance

Offer support with business planning, financial literacy, and value chain development

Facilitate market linkages and infrastructure for value addition

Promote climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive farming

Ensure the active participation of women, youth, and tribal communities

By nurturing these organizations, we’re helping farmers become entrepreneurs and local communities become drivers of sustainable change.
