Dr. Velvizhi has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology and Oceanography. In her more than 21 years’ experience as a marine scientist and a grassroots community organiser, she has overcome class and gender barriers to help coastal communities build safer and sustainable fisheries in the Bay of Bengal.
