Funding Agency:

GIZ

Project Duration:

January 2025 – August 2025

Project Site:

Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu

Brief Description

Wetland conservation and restoration play a crucial role in enhancing biodiversity, water and food security, and local livelihoods, while also providing significant climate co-benefits like carbon storage and resilience against extreme weather. These co-benefits can support India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and help integrate wetlands into climate action and disaster management plans. The Indo-German project for climate action aims to develop methodologies for assessing these co-benefits and fostering public-private collaboration for carbon market investments.

The objective of the present assignment is to prepare model Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for ecosystem-based restoration of small wetlands and enhancement of rural livelihoods for women SHG members for climate resilience in Tamil Nadu. The Detailed Project Reports should focus on building climate resilience through ecosystem-based restoration and management of small wetlands, integrating principles of agroecology, climate resilient livelihoods and wetland wise use.
