The Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural practices through weather-based agro-advisories tailored to specific crops and locations. It provides precise weather-based recommendations considering factors like crop type, growth stage, and local weather conditions, and issues alert advisories during extreme weather events to help farmers protect their crops and livelihoods. The project disseminates information through various communication channels, including mobile apps, SMS alerts, voice mails, social media, and community meetings, ensuring farmers receive critical updates regardless of their access to technology.

A surface weather station in Kannivadi village of Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, collects real-time weather data, contributing to relevant agro-advisories and broader weather monitoring by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Funded as a Grant-in-Aid initiative by the IMD under the Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India, the GKMS project empowers farmers with actionable information, promotes sustainable agricultural practices, and enhances resilience against weather-related challenges.
