Launched on October 16, 2024, this transformative project is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the Scheduled Irular Tribal families residing in 5 Irular fishing villages on the border of Pichavaram Mangrove Forest. They are highly dependent on mangroves and its resources for their livelihood. The target area encompasses approximately 1000 households across 5 tribal fishing villages in around Pichavaram. The integrated project aims to strengthen the foundation of basic education, ensuring that children and adults alike have access to quality learning opportunities. In addition, the focus on health includes improving healthcare access and raising awareness about preventive care and hygiene. Livelihood development initiatives will enable families to adopt sustainable income-generating activities with minimum occupational health hazards, with special emphasis on resource management to improve long-term resilience.
By integrating these core components, this project aims to comprehensively improve the socio-economic well-being of Irular tribal families. The initiative will foster a more empowered, healthier, and self-reliant community, while also promoting sustainable livelihoods and preserving the mangrove ecosystem they depend on."
