Observation, Validation, and Capacity Strengthening of Ocean State Forecast and Fishery Advisory Services along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Coast

Launched in September 2022, it is designed to enhance ocean state forecasting and fishery advisory services along the coastlines of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. By managing Wave Rider Buoys and shore stations in key locations like Puducherry, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari, the project ensures that real-time ocean data is collected and made available to fishers, aiding in safe and efficient fishing practices.

One of its main goals is to strengthen the capacity of local fisherfolk through continuous user interaction and the dissemination of ocean related early warning and marine fishery advisories. This helps bridge the gap between modern technology and traditional fishing practices. In addition, the project works to validate INCOIS early warning and marine fishery related products with fishers, corroborating them with traditional fishing knowledge to ensure that forecasts are both accurate and relevant to the local communities.

The project conducts beach profiles and Littoral Environmental Observations (LEO), in three coastal districts offering valuable insights into shoreline dynamics. This data is crucial for understanding environmental changes and making informed decisions on coastal management. Finally, the project contributes to national efforts in building capacity for ocean state forecasting and improving coastal resilience
