Comprehensive Project on Rice Fallow Management Programme (CRFM) of Govt of Odisha

Location: Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Gajapati and Kandhamal district of Odisha

Project period: December 2025 to November 2026

Project Overview: The overall aim of the project is to increase production of pulses crop to achieve self-sufficiency and ensuring food and nutritional security by providing pulse protein in the diet to maintain good health, restoration of soil health through nitrogen fixation and socio-economic development of farming community

Objectives:

  • Exploitation of residual soil moisture
  • Increasing cropping intensity by targeting crop demonstration in 49500 ha during Rabi 2024-25.
  • To upscale cultivation of Pulses and Oilseeds in Rice fallow area
  • Production of more food with unit water
  • Restoration of soil health by increasing the soil biomass and organic carbon content
  • Improving the livelihood of farmers through enhancement of income and nutritional security.

Major Activities:

  • Identification of clusters of villages in the blocks and districts for implementation of the project in coordination with the Departmental officers from block and districts level and PRI members.
  • Awareness programme of CRFM and selection of farm families for implementing interventions through villages level/ GP level meetings.
  • Organisation of  DLCC
  • Supply of approved variety of seeds to cluster villages for demonstrations and large scale cultivation.
  • Improved cultivation practices – agronomic practices, mechanization and harvesting with emphasis on environment friendly plant protection measures.
  • Promotional of INM, Application of and application of micronutrients as per the crop requirement.
  • Training on improved package of practices, INM integrated pest and disease management.
  • Conduct regular Farmer’s field visits and necessary hand holding support.
  • Demonstration of good agriculture practices for enhancing pulse/ Oilseed production.
  • Organizing field day for wider adaptation of pulse cultivation.
  • Uploading the information in the ADAPT Portal and data collection, analysis, report preparation and submission of midterm and completion report.
  • Process documentation through short videos and photographs.

Fund Allocation: ₹.436810000/-

Project Period: (1 years six month (December 2024 – November 2025) (This project running from last 3 years based on yearly MoU basis)

Impact: 

  • A total of 49500 ha. will be covered under Pulses & Oilseeds during Rabi 2024-25 cultivation under rice fallows in five districts of Odisha viz: Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Malkangiri.
  • Capacity Building of beneficiary farmers, Community Leaders (SHG Leader, FPO leader) will be improved through training, exposure and other capacity building programme and field days.
  • Use of bio-fertilizers will improve soil health and improve the nutrient use efficiency.
  • Critical technology, skill and knowledge on Rice Fallow Management will be improved in the targeted area.
  • Increased area, availability and volume in the production of pulses per unit area.
  • Pulses production in the area will increase at lease by 20 – 30% through the adoption of appropriate technology.
  • Improved dietary diversity and increased income of farmers targeted under the project by 30-40 percent.
  • In addition, the project will contribute to socio-economic development of farming communities.
