Description
MSSRF is actively implementing the Support to Agroecological Transformation Processes in India (SuATI) project focussing on promoting sustainable agroecological and livelihood approaches through participatory action research across 10 villages in the Sagar District of Madhya Pradesh. The initiative primarily aims to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and capacity to shift towards resilient, small-scale agroecological farming systems. Using a participatory action research approach, the project promotes sustainable agroecological practices in major crops such as green gram, groundnut, soybean and mixed cropping systems of mustard for improved livelihood.
The key components include conducting demonstration trials using local biological resources, plant doctor services for pest and disease identification, and the establishment of Biological Resource and Knowledge Centre (BRKC) to disseminate knowledge on agroecological practices, build community capacity in soil and crop health management, and encourage the use of ICT tools for sustainable farming.
Demonstration trials of agroecological practices using biological and microbial inputs showed promising results with improved yields and better economic returns,. These practices also contributed to enhanced soil health and reduced chemical input dependence. Ten plant clinic sessions were conducted, through which around 120 farmers received hands-on training and advisory support for managing plant pests and diseases.
