Description:

Salinity tolerance has evolved independently as well as multiple times over millions of years in various grass lineages species. Grass species can be divided into C3 or C4 classes, depending on their mode of photosynthesis. Crop species such as rice and barley follow the C3 photosynthetic pathway while millets are C4 species. This DST-SERB POWER project will map root traits using ionomic, molecular and cell biological tools in saline tolerant and sensitive C4 vs C3 species under salinity.
